Anders Chydenius
Vicarage Association

The Association was founded in 2011 to preserve the unique vicarage in Kirkonmäki, Kokkola with its surrounding buildings. The assocation aims to develop the vicarage into a public-benefit centre of democracy and cultural heritage. In recent years, the vicarage association has prepared a renovation and architectual plan for the vicarage. The association has also organised cultural activities in the spirit of Anders Chydenius, including concerts, public lectures, literary events, and theatrical performances.

History of the Association and its previous operations

The Association was founded in 2011 when plans appeared to convert the parsonage into apartments to rent out. A group of dedicated volunteers came together with the aim of preserving and developing the parsonage including its heritage setting. They recognized its value as a historic meeting place and as a recreational and cultural space for the public.

Anders Chydenius Vicarage Association is part of the wider Chydenius network, and it actively cooperates with other actors within the so‑called “Chydenius family.” In addition to the Vicarage Association, the “Chydenius family” also includes the Chydenius Foundation, the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius, and the support association of the Consortium.
