The Secret Book Club
Welcome to the book club where we read and discuss literature that in recent years has been banned or labelled as problematic in the United States. Over the past two years, around 16,000 books have been banned. We choose the books we to be read together.
The book club meets once or twice a month for a pleasant gathering to discuss the books we read, the messages they convey, and their relevance in today’s society.

The Book Club of Secret Books started in January 2026 but may also join later in the year. The book club is bilingual (Swedish and Finnish) and free of charge. Participants of the club are expected to get the scheduled books themselves.

Books we have read
New Director
As of August 31, 2026, Jacob Sundström vill take up the position of Director of the Anders Chydenius Vicarage Association. He is trained as a music educator and is known as a musician in several different ensembles and genres.
In his work, he will continue to preserve the heritage of the vicarage and ensure that it offers a diverse range of activities. To some extent, he will also be involved in the activities of the Democracy School, in cooperation with the Democracy Educator
Utöya
It was a memorable and inspiring journey to Utöya in Norway together with the Time Out Foundation.
The journey has been filled with insightful discussions about our role in democracy education and what we can learn from history. It has also highlighted how different places, environments and historical events can influence the way we think and relate to the world around us.

Welcome to explore the historic surroundings of Kirkkomäki! A particularly warm welcome awaits you on 29–30 July from 11 am to 2 pm, when guided open days will be held at Kaarlela Church, the Chydenius Vicarage, and the Kaarlela Local Heritage Museum.
Explore the area at your own pace – there is no fixed programme, but guides will be present and happy to answer your questions. The Local Heritage Museum will also offer fun activities for children.
After the guided visits, you can continue your tour by visiting the HP Antiikki ja Entisöinti Shop & Atelje antique store and admiring its beautiful old treasures. You can also stop by Herkku-Pirtti to enjoy a tasty lunch, a cup of coffee, or something sweet.
The event is free of charge and open to everyone.
