The Secret Book Club
Welcome to the book club where we read and discuss literature that in recent years has been banned or labelled as problematic in the United States. Over the past two years, around 16,000 books have been banned. We choose the books we to be read together.
The book club meets once or twice a month for a pleasant gathering to discuss the books we read, the messages they convey, and their relevance in today’s society.
You can choose to participate at the vicarage or online via this link: https://teams.live.com/meet/9376424190643?p=fDhXijJcvioEZ7KulZ
The Book Club of Secret Books started in January 2026 but may also join later in the year. The book club is bilingual (Swedish and Finnish) and free of charge. Participants of the club are expected to get the scheduled books themselves.
If you want to join the book club and stay updated, you can join our WhatsApp group or email us at acprastgard(at)gmail.com.

Book Recommendations
Hopefully, summer brings some time for reading. Here are a few book recommendations that have been banned in certain parts of the United States:
Harper Lee: "To kill a mockingbird" (1960)
The novel is set in the American South during the 1930s and explores issues of racism, justice, and morality. Through the eyes of a young girl named Scout, readers follow her father, a lawyer, as he defends an innocent Black man accused of a crime in a society marked by prejudice and racial segregation. It is a powerful story about courage, compassion, and the importance of standing up for what is right, even when those around you oppose it.
Margaret Atwood: "The Handmaids Tale" (1985)
Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel depicts the totalitarian society of Gilead, where women have lost their fundamental rights. Women are forced to serve as handmaids and are valued solely for their ability to reproduce. Through the story of the protagonist, Offred, the novel explores themes of power, control, gender roles, and resistance. The book has received international acclaim and is perhaps best known today through its highly successful television adaptation.

Ord som gör avtryck
Välkommen att fira ungas röster, demokrati och yttrandefrihet!
Anders Chydenius Prästgårdsförening bjuder in till vernissage i Chydenia köpcentrum.
